- Pakistan’s Pressing Problems
- Over 25 million children out-of-school. Pakistan has one of the world’s largest populations of out-of-school children.
- According to the most recently available data from the World Bank, an alarming 58% of adults aged 15 years+ lack literacy skills.
- After the devastating flooding in Pakistan in 2022, TCF provided immediate relief by distributing 5 million meals to over 65,000 displaced families across 32 districts. TCF schools were also used as temporary shelters while the flood water receded. As a result of the floods, 3.5 million children had their schooling disrupted.
Education is the answer! Only education has the power to transform lives:
- Education offers opportunities
Education empowers individuals to take charge of their lives, improves income equality, enhances freedom and welfare and offers women an avenue to bridge the gender gap
With your support, TCF is providing quality education to 320,000 students (50% of them girls) studying in 2,261 school units across Pakistan.
TCF has 71,000 graduates who have gained admission to schools like IBA, LUMS, DOW, NED and other top tier institutes in Pakistan.
TCF’s alumni include a World Bank employee, a paediatric neurologist, and a taekwondo gold medalist who has trained 2,000 girls in self-defence – all of them are children of factory workers.
TCF’s female adult literacy program, Aagahi, has provided basic literacy skills to 221,000 women.
2. Education promotes healthier communities
Education develops the skills, values and attitudes that help citizens lead healthy and fulfilled lives. Studies have shown the positive impact of mothers receiving higher levels of education on preventing child deaths, maternal mortality, and HIV in addition to improving nutrition and vaccination rates.
With your support, TCF’s Vocational Training Project is providing women living in TCF school communities with the skills to achieve financial independence. Currently, there are around 20 training centres expanding economic opportunities for women.
Unlike most schools in impoverished areas of Pakistan, TCF schools offer students a clean and safe environment to study in and access to drinking water. TCF’s Community Development Unit (CDU) has set-up 79 water filtration plants across various TCF schools to provide clean and safe drinking water to 100,000 beneficiaries.
3. Education develops civic engagement
Education ensures citizens are attentive, knowledgeable and participatory in all aspects of society. An emphasis on civic education also ensures tolerance of differing viewpoints – the basis of developing democratic values.
TCF is committed to building better communities. Our schools are open to all children regardless of ethnicity or a family’s economic status. Tolerance for all faiths and ethnicities are strongly inculcated in all students.
Your support has made the TCF Rahbar mentorship programme possible. The programme is aimed at the development of youth as responsible individuals and productive members of society.
